Our purpose, to make a significant impression. A long lasting, positive and impactful one. I had been staring at an empty canvas for months, often beginning a piece with no end in sight, a creative block. I would go into my studio room and walk right out. The thought that what brought me great joy was dormant and not ready to be awoken was troubling and sad. As life would have it, we go through our lives, live their course following our intuition, or not. Thankfully for me, I listened to my inner thoughts and I began speaking to a therapist. Apprehensive of the stigmas and stereotypes I shied away from doing so for quite some time, but let's be honest, who out there doesn’t need a lil help.
In our last session, she asked what were some things that made me happy, Painting; painting is definitely something that brings me great joy. She made a comment that it would be interesting to see what came up next time I paint. She suggested that if I were to hit a creative block to just write some things down. Without much thought I bought two canvases; I proceeded to prime one, then the other. Initially, I began to map things out, rigid lines without much context. I then stopped myself and what came about was unplanned and little thought was needed. I simply followed the thought “what makes me happy”; Sunsets, the sound of waves crashing, time peacefully spent.
I began Making waves. Staying true to who we are will make waves, pursuing our purpose doing the things that give us joy. Also, as I’m re-learning, balancing things out. Making Waves is about knowing that it is more than ok to prioritize one's needs and self. It is not only a benefit to our heart and soul but a need for our minds and emotions to settle and flow without a rip current drowning us inward. We’re not destined to be preoccupied with all that is to be done, work, family, life. We are meant to watch sunsets, smell the rain, watch the leaves change colours and then be swept away by the wind, make snow angels in the winter only to blossom with the flowers in Spring. We are meant to be more than our troubles, we are meant to make waves by sharing our life experience with others, through our actions, our example and our vulnerabilities that only makes us Human.
